The Adventure

12 PhotoPillers | 2 PhotoPills Masters | Menorca (Spain) | Endless legendary photos

Warning! This is not a honeymoon (or a beach holiday)... But it’s not a bootcamp either.

We’re recruiting 12 brave PhotoPillers (PhotoPills and photography nerds) to join us on a 7-day expedition to photograph the Total Solar Eclipse, the Milky Way, the Perseids Meteor Shower and Summer’s Golden Light along with some of the gems hidden in the beautiful island of Menorca, Spain.

This is your chance to capture a once-in-a-lifetime celestial event: the total solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, right in the heart of the island’s golden landscapes. But that's just the beginning...

By day, we’ll explore Menorca’s wild coastline, lighthouses, white-sand beaches, and ancient stone monuments, chasing the warm glow of Sunrise and Sunset.

By night, we’ll dive headfirst into a galactic playground: the Milky Way, the Perseids Meteor Shower, and skies so dark they’ll make your jaw drop.

This is a photography marathon disguised as a Mediterranean escape. And you? You're a key asset!

We’ve carefully planned the shoots to make the most of every epic moment. But we’re also staying nimble, adjusting the plan based on weather, light, and the whims of the universe.

Flexibility is key when you're chasing magic.

If we’re out late shooting the Milky Way or waiting for meteors to rain down from the heavens, we’ll sleep in a bit and grab coffee before the next mission. And if the night skies don’t cooperate, we’ll rise early to catch that perfect pastel Sunrise over the cliffs.

Whatever the light throws at us we’ll be there, cameras ready, smiles wide.

This isn’t a vacation. This is a PhotoPills-style adventure, fueled by curiosity, creativity, and a little cosmic chaos.

You are about to embark on a PhotoPills’ style journey. And it’s not going to be a honeymoon precisely... :P

You’ll be a true PhotoPiller!

Are you in?

Day 1. Sunday, August 9th - Welcome to Menorca

It’s Monday afternoon... and the adventure begins.

You’ve just landed in the middle of the Balearic Sea breeze, and trust me,you’re not just stepping onto an island... you’re stepping into a story.

Menorca, Spain. A hidden gem adrift in the heart of the Mediterranean.

This is where PhotoPills was born!

And once you see the light here, you’ll understand why.

For centuries, people have called it “the Island of Light”, long before the Romans ever laid eyes on it. There’s something mystical in the air. Time slows down. The Sun paints the landscape with gold. And inspiration seems to rise with every wave.

Civilizations have fought to claim it (Romans, Ottomans, Muslims) all drawn to its rugged beauty and strategic magic. Today, Menorca stands still, wild, and quietly spectacular... waiting for the few who know where to look.

And now, that’s you.

This island isn’t just a backdrop, it’s a full-blown playground for the lens.

You’ll be shooting in a land of dramatic ravines, white-sand beaches, ancient Talayotic ruins, hidden wetlands, wild cliffs, isles, lighthouses, and over 1,500 archaeological sites.

Oh! And beaches so pristine they look as if an AI had generated them... :D

White sands. Crystal waters. Wildlife everywhere, including rare species that live only here.

You’re not coming here as a tourist.

You’re joining us as an insider. As an islander.

We’ll show you the Menorca we love: the secret spots, the golden angles, the perfect timing.

This is where adventure begins. This is where stories are captured in pixels and light.

If you're arriving that morning, we'll have airport transfers ready to whisk you away to the beautiful Hotel Seth 55 Santo Tomás, just a stone’s throw from the coast. I do recommend flying in a day early, though... There’s nothing like waking up to the sound of the Mediterranean and easing into the rhythm of island life!

Our hotel is located in Santo Tomás, a tranquil resort area renowned for its family-friendly atmosphere and natural beauty. The main beach, Playa de Santo Tomás, stretches approximately 500 meters and is characterized by its fine white sand and clear, shallow waters...

Adjacent to Santo Tomás are two notable beaches: Binigaus and Atalis.

Binigaus Beach lies to the west and is accessible via a short walk along the coastal path, Camí de Cavalls. This unspoiled beach spans nearly 900 meters and is celebrated for its natural setting, with turquoise waters and a backdrop of cliffs and pine trees.

To the east of Santo Tomás, nestled between it and Son Bou, is the secluded cove of Atalis. This small beach is known for its golden sand and crystal-clear waters. Due to its limited size and lack of facilities, Atalis offers a more intimate beach experience.

So as you can see, Santo Tomás is a paradise within a paradise, a comfortable place to rest your head, enjoy healthy meals and find relaxing moments.

1:00 pm

Once you’ve dropped off your bags, it’s time to officially kick things off.

You’ll meet other PhotoPillers and the Masters. Antoni Cladera, myself and the other PhotoPillers will be there.

And what better place to do that than Chiringuito Es Bruc, a local beachside favorite where the waves practically kiss your toes while you sip a cold drink?

Close your eyes and imagine this: grilled seafood, rustic tables in the sand, and the warm afternoon light shimmering on the turquoise water of Playa de Santo Tomás.

You’ll be surrounded by fellow photographers who are just as excited as you are... And trust me, this crew is awesome!

3:00 pm

Back at Hotel Seth 55 Santo Tomás, you check in and take a moment to recharge. The rooms are bright, breezy, and super comfortable. It’s our home base for the week ahead.

4:00 pm

Now the real fun begins.

We gather in the hotel for a full rundown of the expedition: what we’ll be shooting, where we’re going, and how to get the most out of each session. You get to know each other better, get your questions answered, and start feeling the buzz of what’s to come.

5:15 pm

Before we head out, we’re diving into a PhotoPills class right here in the birthplace of the app!

You’ll learn how to plan your shots with military precision using the Planner, Augmented Reality, and a few tricks you probably didn’t know existed. From nailing Sunset, Sunrise and Milky Way compositions to scouting the perfect eclipse location later in the week, this session is pure gold.

6:15 pm

Golden hour is coming... Time to gear up! Let’s pack up, check our batteries, clean those lenses, and get ready to move.

7:15 pm

We lace up our boots and take a 30-minute scenic walk to Cala Atalis, one of Menorca’s most hidden gems. This secluded cove is a dream location: soft white sand, crystal-clear water, and sculpted cliffs that catch the light just right.

It’s a perfect warm-up for the week ahead.

7:45 pm

Once we arrive, we’ll take our time exploring the cliffs above the beach, looking for strong foregrounds, clean leading lines, and interesting textures for our Sunset shoot. Whether you're shooting wide, tight, or somewhere in between you’ll have tons to work with.

This is the perfect chance to pull out the PhotoPills Planner and use the Augmented Reality view to map out the best spot for our Sunset shot:

The secluded setting with the Sun setting over the sea towards the right of our framing provides stunning warm light for wide-angle coastal shots.

As the Sun begins to set, it won’t be center stage. Instead, it’ll cast a gentle, indirect glow across the scene, painting the scene in soft golds and pastels. It’s the kind of light that makes everything feel cinematic... and the kind of subtlety that separates a good shot from a legendary one.

You can use the curving shoreline as a natural leading line, guiding the viewer’s eye right through your frame, from foreground to horizon.

And do you see the scattered rocks in the shallow turquoise waters? They’re not obstacles.

They’re anchors: visual stepping stones that add rhythm, scale, and intrigue.

Obviously, this is the perfect location for long exposure photography... capture the motion of waves against the shore with ND and GND filters.

This is a shoot about refinement: composition, mood, and control. About seeing the magic in simplicity.

Just you, your camera, a serene Mediterranean scene... and that perfect light.

8:05 pm

As the light drops lower, everything shifts. The colors start warming up, shadows stretch, and the whole cove starts to glow. This is why we’re here.

You’ll be guided through the process (framing, focusing, exposure) while also having the freedom to experiment and chase your own creative vision.

Golden hour begins at 8:10 pm, Sunset is at 8:48 pm, golden hour ends at 9:06 pm and blue hour ends at 9:17 pm.

9:15 pm

With memory cards full and hearts happy, we’ll make our way back toward Restaurant Es Pins for dinner under the stars.

This cozy spot serves up traditional Menorcan cuisine: fresh local fish, slow-roasted meats, and maybe a glass of pomada (a local classic) if you're feeling adventurous.

11:15 pm

After dinner, we’ll stroll back to Hotel Seth 55 Santo Tomás, where a soft bed (and maybe a little Lightroom previewing on your laptop) awaits.

It’s only day one, but the bar is already sky-high.

Photographic pills:

  • Sunset, golden hour and blue hour at Cala Atalis.

Day 2. Monday, August 10th - The Sun Silhouette

4:30 am

Wake up PhotoPillers... It's time to chase the light!

5:15 am

We are hitting the road early to make our way to Punta Nati, one of Menorca’s most dramatic cliffside locations. This place features jagged coastlines, a stoic lighthouse, and the wild Mediterranean crashing below.

This is Sunrise like you’ve never seen it before.

6:05 am

We park the van and begin a short walk (5 minutes) to our shooting spot.

The anticipation builds with every step... Can you hear the waves?

Punta Nati is a remote headland situated near Ciutadella, on the northwestern tip of Menorca. The area is characterized by its arid, rocky terrain, with sparse vegetation, dry-stone walls, and a sense of isolation that contrasts sharply with the island’s more verdant interior and southern beaches.

Constant exposure to the Tramontana wind gives the landscape a wild, almost lunar appearance.

One of the most iconic features of Punta Nati is its historic lighthouse, Faro de Punta Nati, built in the early 20th century in response to a series of shipwrecks along Menorca’s treacherous northern coast. The lighthouse stands as a stark monument amidst the barren plateau, offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and spectacular Sunrises.

But we won’t be photographing the lighthouse today... We’ve got a cool Sun alignment planned for you...

This location is a minimalist’s dream with maximum storytelling potential.

With the Sun rising over the horizon, we’ll craft a shot straight out of a dream. In the distance, a mysterious and secret silhouette moves slowly along a ridgeline, perfectly aligned with the glowing orb of the rising Sun.

It’s cinematic. Poetic. Timeless.

We’re talking precision planning here: an alignment that demands both imagination and geometry. With so much open space, you can shift, reframe, and explore endless creative angles. Add in the cracked textures of the rocky ground, the warm-to-cool gradient of the morning sky, and the ancient stone huts scattered nearby, and you’ve got yourself a playground of shapes, light, and emotion.

At Punta Nati, it’s not just about taking a picture, it’s about building one. From the ground up.

Frame by frame.

Light by light.

This is where stark beauty meets pure creative freedom.

Blue hour begins at 6:21 am, golden hour begins at 6:33 am, Sunrise is at 6:51 am and golden hour ends at 7:29 am.

7:30 am

After the magic, we head back to Hotel Seth 55 in Santo Tomás. Time to recharge and take in everything you just captured.

8:30 am

Breakfast is served. And trust us, you’ve earned it.

10:00 am

No rush. Take time to relax, review your shots, maybe dip your toes in the pool or the sea. This is your space to unwind.

1:00 pm

We gather again for lunch at a local gem in Santo Tomás where we enjoy fresh, flavorful, Mediterranean fare to keep us going.

3:00 pm

Back to the classroom for a double dose of photography mastery.

First up: How to Plan & Photograph the Milky Way. You’ll learn to line up the galaxy with landscapes for those epic starry shots you dream about.

4:00 pm

Next: Seascapes with Filters. Discover how to use ND filters, GND filters and polarizers to capture silky waters, textured skies, and the serene power of Menorca’s coast.

5:00 pm

Sessions wrap up. Time to breathe, swim, nap or prep your gear. Tonight is going to be stellar!

6:30 pm

We head north to Binimel·là, where our easy hike begins (30 minutes).

Our destination? The stunning Cala Pregonda... a beach unlike any other, with Martian-red rocks, hidden coves, and cinematic backdrops.

7:40 pm

Here we are at Cala Pregonda.

As I told you before, Cala Pregonda is a captivating and unspoiled beach renowned for its distinctive reddish-golden sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters.

The beach's unique hue is attributed to the presence of "pedra vermella" (red stone), giving it a striking appearance that contrasts beautifully with the azure sea.

The unique landscape, with its red sands and turquoise waters, provides a picturesque setting for our Sunset photography session.

Explore. Find your frame. Scout the curves of the coastline. Let the light guide your vision.

Golden hour begins at 8:05 pm, Sunset is at 8:47 pm, golden hour ends at 9:05 pm and blue hour ends at 9:16 pm.

9:30 pm

Dinner, outdoors, under the stars. This is the heart of the expedition: fellow photographers gathered around a meal, sharing stories, laughter, and maybe a few sneak peeks from your screens.

10:30 pm

The Moon was just a whisper in the sky (Waning Crescent 5.9%), and set at 7:30 pm. And Cala Pregonda is far from major urban areas, resulting in minimal light pollution...

So the conditions now are perfect for night photography!

The cove is open to the north and northwest, which means during August, you can frame the Milky Way tail or capture circular Star Trails around Polaris over the sea or cliffs.

And of course, the reddish islets, coastal rock outcrops, or textured dunes for dramatic compositions.

We’ll scout the nearby coastal stream, where – if the water is calm – we’ll have the rare chance to frame a truly otherworldly image: the Galactic Center mirrored on the surface of a still pool, stretching southwest across the sky. It’s like photographing a crack in the universe... with a perfect reflection stitched into the Earth.

This is one of those compositions that doesn’t come easy. You need patience. Precision. And perfect timing.

But when it works?

It’s unforgettable.

These are the nights we live for.

Then, it’s time to turn our lenses to the sky.

We split into small groups and head to pre-scouted locations for astrophotography and Star Trails.

12:00 am

We begin the walk back, tired but glowing.

1:10 am

Back at the hotel. Bedtime.

Sleep well, PhotoPillers. You’ve captured Sunrise, Sunset, and starlight – all in a single day!

Photographic pills:

  • Sunrise, golden hour and blue hour at Punta Nati (if the weather blocked our astrophotography session the night before).
  • Sunset, golden hour and blue hour at Cala Pregonda.
  • Milky Way and Star Trails at Cala Pregonda (if clear skies).

Day 3. Tuesday, August 11th - The Lighthouse

3:45 am

Rise and shine, PhotoPillers!

We know it’s early... but if the stars didn’t come out to play last night, this Sunrise session is our second chance at magic.

4:30 am

Grab your gear and hop on the bus. We’re off to the northeast coast.

5:15 am

We arrive at Cap de Favàritx and begin our walk toward Cala Presili (20 min).

The air is fresh, the sky still deep blue. You can already hear the soft waves rolling in.

6:00 am

We’ve made it.

Cala Presili unfolds in front of us – a secluded crescent of white sand and turquoise waters, perfectly framed by the distant silhouette of Favàritx Lighthouse.

And the scene?

The rising Sun paints the sky in pastel hues, casting its first golden light across the sea. The lighthouse stands tall on the horizon, while reflections shimmer on the wet sand beneath your feet.

The light here is soft, radiant... and if luck is on our side, utterly breathtaking.

Blue hour begins at 6:21 am, golden hour begins at 6:32 am, Sunrise is at 6:50 am and golden hour ends at 7:20 am.

7:30 am

With memory cards fuller and hearts lighter, we make our way back to the bus.

9:15 am

Back at Hotel Seth 55 Santo Tomás. Time to drop off your bags and breathe for a moment.

As soon as we get there, breakfast is served. Coffee, fresh fruit, and pastries never tasted so good after a morning of chasing the light.

10:15 am

Time to relax, nap, or take a dip in the pool. Recharge... because the day is just getting started.

1:00 pm

Lunch time!

Fuel up because we’ve got a classroom session coming that’ll supercharge your eclipse photography.

3:00 pm

Welcome to the classroom!

It’s time to dive into the magic and science of planning and photographing a total solar eclipse. We’ll walk you through everything: gear, composition, timing, creativity, and last but not least, safety.

4:00 pm

Then we shift gears and head to the Moon.

You’ll learn how to plan your Moon shots – whether it's a Supermoon rising behind a lighthouse or a Crescent one setting behind the cliffs.

5:00 pm

Lessons done. Now it's time to put them into practice... or just hit the beach and unwind.

6:30 pm

Bags packed again as we’re heading out for our Sunset photography session.

Next stop: Binibeca, a picture-perfect fishing village on Menorca’s southern coast.

7:30 pm

Golden hour at the coast.

We’re perched above the rocky shoreline, where craggy textures lead the eye straight to the iconic whitewashed houses of Binibeca.

The Sun sets behind us, casting a soft, golden glow on the town, warming up the rocks, the buildings, and the mood.

Tonight’s shoot is also the perfect practice run for the eclipse. We’ll test focusing on the Sun, play with compositions, and experiment with filters.

Golden hour begins at 8:07 pm, Sunset is at 8:44 pm, golden hour ends at 9:02 pm and blue hour ends at 9:14 pm.

9:30 pm

Dinner at a local restaurant: fresh seafood, local wine, and plenty of laughter shared.

But... don’t get too comfy.

11:30 pm

We’re on the move again.

A short 15-minute drive takes us to Alcaufar, where we begin an easy walk (only 15 minutes long) under the stars to the Torre de Alcaufar, a historic coastal watchtower.

Built in the late 18th century, the tower was part of a network of fortifications designed to protect Menorca's southeastern coast from pirate incursions... And it’s the perfect subject for tonight’s session...

It’s time for astrophotography!

Here, beneath Menorca’s pristine skies, we shoot the Milky Way, the stars, the coastline, and maybe even our dreams.

12:30 am

We start making our way back. Slowly. Reluctantly. A little tired... but glowing.

1:30 am

Back at the hotel.

Rest well my friends because tomorrow, we’ll chase the eclipse! :O

Photographic Pills:

  • Sunrise, golden hour and blue hour at Cala Presili with Favàritx Lighthouse (if the weather blocked our astrophotography session the night before).
  • Total solar eclipse + Moon photography planning workshop
  • Sunset, golden hour and blue hour along the rocky coastline of Binibeca.
  • Milky Way and Star Trails at Torre de Alcaufar (if clear skies).

Day 4. Wednesday, August 12th - The Eclipse

4:15 am

Rise and shine!

It’s going to be an unforgettable day... One of those you’ll remember every time you look back at your best images.

5:00 am

If we didn’t have the chance to do some astrophotography yesterday, today we’re off early to Punta Nati Lighthouse for a second Sunrise shooting session.

As you noticed while scouting the location on day 2, the lighthouse is perched dramatically on the northwestern coast of Menorca. The land here is raw and windswept, a rugged stage set for Sunrise.

5:45 am

We arrive at the parking area and take a short walk across the rocky terrain. As dawn begins to break, we’ll settle into position.

6:00 am

It’s shooting time. Punta Nati’s lonely lighthouse stands tall against a sky that’s just beginning to glow. As the first rays of light spill across the cliffs, the contrast between the golden sky and the stark limestone is breathtaking.

This is a moment for texture, silhouette, and atmosphere and we’ll be ready for it, shutters clicking in the quiet.

Blue hour begins at 6:23 am, golden hour begins at 6:35 am, Sunrise is at 6:53 am and golden hour ends at 7:31 am.

7:30 am

We make our way back to the van, minds already spinning with the morning’s shots.

8:30 am

Back at Hotel Seth 55 Santo Tomás, we drop off gear and grab a well-earned breakfast.

10:00 am

Time to relax, nap, or even review your Sunrise shots poolside. Recharge because the day is just getting started.

1:00 pm

Lunch is served and trust us, you're going to want the energy.

3:00 pm

Classroom session: How to Photograph the Eclipse.

We'll walk you through composition tips, exposure strategies, and gear prep so you’re 100% ready when the Moon meets the Sun later this evening.

4:00 pm

Next up: Planning and Photographing the Perseids. This is your chance to master the meteor magic we’ll be chasing tonight after dark.

5:00 pm

Time to pack up. We’re heading to our Total Solar Eclipse location, one of the island’s most striking eclipse-viewing spots.

6:20 pm

We arrive at the site and start setting up.

Our subject rises like a sentinel, and the eclipse will happen right next to it...

7:37 pm

This is the moment.

The reason we’ve come. The celestial crown jewel of the expedition.

At 7:37 pm, the Moon takes center stage and Menorca holds its breath.

The sky darkens. The stars emerge. And for a fleeting, unforgettable instant... day becomes night.

We’re there, cameras ready, hearts pounding, at one of the most epic eclipse-viewing spots on the island... But I’ll keep it secret for the moment... I don’t want to spoil the surprise!

The only thing I can tell is that our subject is perched above the rugged coastline, standing like an ancient guardian, carved by time and wind. And on this night, it'll be a silent witness to a cosmic event that won’t happen here again for ages.

We’ve planned this shoot down to the millimeter thanks to the magic of PhotoPills.

Position yourself just right, and you can frame a 6-meter-wide partial eclipse rising beside the subject like a glowing halo from another world. Or, switch to our backup spot where the 3-meter-wide total eclipse hangs directly above the sea, floating in surreal silence.

It’s not just about pointing your camera at the sky.

It’s about capturing a story:

  • The shimmering Diamond Ring flashing in the dark
  • The ethereal Corona curling like ghostly flames
  • The fleeting Baily’s Beads sparkling on the lunar edge
  • The glowing Chromosphere, alive with solar fire
  • The subtle Earthshine kissing the Moon’s dark face

We’ll shoot it all, frame by frame, with precision, passion, and PhotoPills mastery.

Every second counts. Every shot is a chance to take the photo. The one you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

This isn’t just photography.

It’s chasing a shadow that spans the Earth. It’s being in the right place, at the right time, with the right people.

And trust me... you want to be there when the Sun vanishes behind the Watch Tower.

Are you ready to shoot the eclipse of a lifetime?

Golden hour begins at 8:07 pm, Sunset is at 8:45 pm, golden hour ends at 9:03 pm and blue hour ends at 9:14 pm.

9:30 pm

Back to the van, spirits high.

10:05 pm

Dinner at Pizzeria Roma in Ciutadella. After a day like this, nothing tastes better than wood-fired pizza and good company.

11:25 pm

But we’re not done yet...

We head to our final location: Pont d’en Gil, a majestic stone arch set against the open sea and one of Menorca’s crown jewels.

This geological marvel resembles a suspended bridge carved by the relentless force of the sea, creating a dramatic opening in the cliffs through which small and medium-sized boats can pass.

12:00 am

We arrive just in time to catch the Milky Way rising. The Galactic Core will align beautifully with the natural arch. It's one of the most iconic astro compositions on the island... and tonight, it’s ours.

Add in the Perseids streaking overhead, the waves crashing below, and the total silence of a Menorcan midnight...

And you’ve got the makings of a portfolio image.

1:20 am

Time to head back. It’s been a day of light, shadow, and stars.

2:00 am

Back at the hotel. Exhausted. Inspired. And probably already dreaming about the next shot.

Photography Pills:

  • Sunrise, golden hour and blue hour at Punta Nati with its lighthouse (if the weather blocked our astrophotography session the night before).
  • How to shoot a total solar eclipse + Perseids photography planning workshop
  • Total solar eclipse in a secret location.
  • Astrophotography session at the natural arch of Pont d’en Gil (if clear skies).

Day 5. Thursday, August 13th - A Sky Full of Stars

4:30 am

It’s early. The kind of early that feels like a secret... But that’s only because last night we couldn’t do any astrophotography.

So the Sunrise awaits... And it’s time to get ready for what’s ahead.

5:15 am

We step into the cool morning air, gear in hand, and board the van. Today begins with salt, sea, and silence.

5:55 am

We arrive at Ses Salines, where time slows down.

A short walk brings us to a weathered old hut... simple, forgotten, but rich with character. A couple of fishermen are already there, starting their day as we begin ours.

Click. Click. Click.

The shutter breaks the hush.

The first light of dawn begins to glow softly along the horizon. Fishing nets hang like textured sculptures. The still water reflects the subtle hues of the sky, and the hut – rugged and timeless – becomes our main subject.

The blue hour stretches out, and golden light floods in. The rising Sun paints everything in warmth: the boats, the salt flats, the faces of the fishermen.

This is a photographer’s dream: storytelling through light, shadow, and soul.

Blue hour begins at 6:23 am, golden hour begins at 6:35 am, Sunrise is at 6:53 am and golden hour ends at 7:30 am.

7:30 am

Back in the van, we head to our home base: Hotel Seth 55 Santo Tomás. By now, we've earned a hearty breakfast.

8:30 am

Croissants, fresh fruit, espresso. We recharge and relive the magic of the morning with stories and screen previews around the table.

10:00 am

Free time. Take a nap, organize your shots, or soak in the Mediterranean Sun. You’ve got space to breathe.

1:00 pm

Lunch is served. We gather at the hotel restaurant, plates full of fresh, local flavors: grilled seafood, Menorcan cheeses, seasonal vegetables, maybe even a glass of chilled white wine. A quiet pause before the creative momentum builds again.

3:00 pm

Back to the classroom. But this isn’t just theory: this is your work, your eclipse images from earlier in the week, and your starry Milky Way and Perseid shots coming to life on the screen.

We’ll edit, critique, and refine together, side by side.

5:00 pm

Free time again. Beach? Pool? Hammock? Your call.

6:30 pm

Now we go north. The Sun is dipping, the gear is packed, and we’re heading to one of Menorca’s most iconic landmarks: the Favàritx Lighthouse.

You saw it from far away, from Cala Presili, on day 3. Now we’ll get much closer.

7:15 pm

We begin the short hike through the surreal terrain: black slate, jagged cliffs, wind-sculpted rock. The lighthouse appears in the distance, rising stark and proud from the otherworldly coastline. The light is about to be perfect, soft and low, casting long shadows across the land.

8:00 pm

We arrive just in time. The last light of day brushes against the lunar landscape of black slate. The lighthouse – tall, stark, alone – stands like a sentinel at the edge of the world.

And the sky? It’s preparing its nightly performance.

As the Sun disappears, the Moon (just 1.4% illuminated!) begins to glow softly above the horizon, barely there, like a whispered promise. But hurry up, because it sets at 9:11 pm.

We photograph through the fading light, capturing silhouettes, seascapes, and the lighthouse standing proud against an indigo sky.

Golden hour begins at 8:05 pm, Sunset is at 8:42 pm, golden hour ends at 9:00 pm and blue hour ends at 9:11 pm.

9:30 pm

Dinner under the stars. Sandwiches, laughter, shared images. We're not just travelers anymore, we’re a team, bonded by light.

10:30 pm

And then, the show begins.

The Milky Way creates a diagonal above the lighthouse like a celestial bridge. Perseid meteors might streak the sky.

Every few minutes, someone gasps.

Another meteor. Another shot. Another forever moment.

12:30 am

Reluctantly, we start the walk back.

2:00 am

Back at the hotel. Exhausted. Elated. Memory cards full. Hearts fuller.

Photographic Pills:

  • Sunrise, golden hour and blue hour over Ses Salines with fishermen and sea textures (if the weather blocked our astrophotography session the night before).
  • Editing sessions: turn your eclipse and night shots into gallery-worthy images.
  • Sunset, golden hour, blue hour at Favàritx Lighthouse.
  • Milky Way rising and Perseids meteors streaking across at Favàritx Lighthouse (if clear skies).

Day 6. Friday, August 14th - The Secret

I’ve been giving you lots of details of this amazing expedition to Menorca (Spain).

Maybe far too many...

But on August 14th we’ll do something very special...

What will that be?

Well, you'll have to be there, with us, to figure it out :P

Day 7. Saturday, August 15th - The Farewell

4:30 am

One last early wake-up call... but trust me, it’s worth it.

5:15 am

We load up and hit the road, chasing the first light of day one final time.

Our destination? The dramatic seastacks of Cavalleria, Menorca’s wild north coast, where jagged cliffs meet the open Mediterranean.

6:05 am

We pull into the quiet parking bay, still cloaked in the soft blue of pre-dawn. From here, it’s a short walk to the edge of the world.

And then, there it is. The sea. The cliffs. The ancient rocks carved by centuries of wind and wave.

Tripods go up. Shutters click.

We’re perched above the restless water, golden light just starting to stretch across the horizon. The textures, the shadows, the scale – it’s raw, powerful, and absolutely photogenic.

As the Sun rises over the Balearic Sea, it lights up the seastacks like ancient sentinels standing guard. This is our final shoot, and it’s a perfect finale.

Blue hour begins at 6:25 am, golden hour begins at 6:37 am, Sunrise is at 6:55 am and golden hour ends at 7:32 am.

7:35 am

Time to head back. We take one last look, breathe it in, and walk back to the van.

8:25 am

Back at Hotel Seth 55 Santo Tomás, we drop off our bags and grab a well-deserved breakfast: hot coffee, fresh pastries, and all the Mediterranean goodness we’ve come to love this week.

10:00 am

We pack up our gear, our memories, and our laughter.

11:00 am

Check-out. One last ride that takes us to Menorca Airport.

It’s the end of the road. But what a road it’s been.

From eclipse shadows dancing across the island, to golden cliffs and crystal coves... we’ve captured Menorca in its most magical moments.

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey: every shot, every sunrise, every “wow” moment... and the eclipse that we experienced together! We came as photographers, but we leave as a team of storytellers.

Here’s to light, to adventure, and to the next one.

Do you want an example of how huge this will be?

This is a glimpse to what happened in the PhotoPills Expedition to Iceland. We had so many adventures and so much fun... We can’t wait for Menorca (Spain)

But you don’t have to take our word for granted. Here’s what some PhotoPillers say about the PhotoPills adventures:

“I went to Iceland expecting to have the opportunity to photograph the marvelous landscape and master nightscapes. What I encountered was so much more – 14 kindred souls from across the globe who share a passion for photography. Together we expanded our creative boundaries, learned from one another and had an insane amount of fun in the process. I am confident that everyone came away from the experience a better photographer.”

“From the very moment the guys from PhotoPills announced the expedition to Iceland... I didn’t think it twice! I was using PhotoPills but not at its full capacity, so I had no better chance to learn from the creators of this amazing app. The experience was even more amazing than anything I could have imagined. In Iceland, I discovered a bunch of folks as crazy about photography as I am. I had a blast!

Photography is a continuous learning process, you always find something new that motivates you to improve. And this adventure made me improve more than I could imagine.”

"The PhotoPills guys know how to create a fantastic experience. They bring an infectiously fun energy and are always willing to drop some handy photography knowledge on you that you will take with you. You take their trip and you'll for sure have a good time, get some amazing pics and leave a better photographer."

“During my experience in Iceland I lived wonderful moments and had surprises that were beyond the expected. It completely exceeded my initial expectations! Sharing knowledge, experiences and ways of working and living photography with such a great group has been one of the most enriching life experiences I have ever had.

Who he said that learning and knowledge sharing can not be wonderfully fun?”

“I can't say enough about what a fantastic time I had during the PhotoPills Iceland photo tour! The guys from PhotoPills and Donal Boyd were so knowledgeable, accommodating, and especially lots of fun. Never a dull moment – nonstop action and shooting of amazing landscapes for 10 days. I came away with enough images and memories to last a lifetime!”

FAQs

What’s the temperature in Menorca in August?

In August, Menorca basks in the full glow of a Mediterranean summer. The average temperature ranges between 22ºC (72ºF) and 30ºC (86ºF), with long, sun-soaked days and warm, balmy nights. The sea is invitingly warm, perfect for swimming, sailing, or simply watching the sun set over the water in a haze of golden light.

The island breathes summer: pine-scented breezes drift over rugged coves, cicadas hum in the heat, and the landscape glows with parched grasses and vivid bougainvillea. Shade becomes precious, and the salty air carries the gentle promise of the sea.

While storms are rare, always be prepared with sun protection, plenty of water, and lightweight clothing – Menorca’s heat is beautiful, but not to be underestimated, especially during the still hours of the afternoon.

What do you recommend I bring along for the expedition?

Your sense of adventure and fun, your camera and of course your sense of humor.

Besides that? Once you book your spot, we’ll send you further details and suggestions about what to bring (gear, clothing, etc.).

Is travel insurance included in the price of the expedition?

No. Participants are suggested to purchase national or international medical and travel insurance coverage.

Also, we recommend you to choose a travel insurance that:

  • Covers trip cancellation costs.
  • Covers Covid-19 health, travel and cancellation costs.

What is the cancellation policy?

We hope you don’t need to cancel your spot, but if a situation arises where you don’t have a choice, our cancellation policy is the following.

If you choose not to join the Expedition, a cancellation fee may apply. This fee will be equivalent to the cost of the Expedition, minus any savings or additional income we generate if we’re able to fill your spot with another participant.

If we’re able to fill your spot, we’ll refund the payments you’ve made, deducting a €300 administrative fee and any non-refundable costs retained by our travel partners.

However, if there are unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances at the destination or nearby that significantly affect the execution of the Expedition or the transportation of passengers to the destination, no penalty will be applied, and we will refund all payments you have made toward the Expedition.

Refunds will be paid by the same method that the original payment was made.
