Right when the Sun is in the period of solar maximum, which means we will be more likely to see and photograph the dancing green lights of the Aurora!

Of course...

We’ll be taking photos all day long...

In mid-February, the total golden hour time exceeds 5 hours per day in Lofoten!

The Adventure

12 PhotoPillers | 2 PhotoPills Masters | Lofoten Islands (Norway) | Endless legendary photos

Warning! This is not a honeymoon...

We’re recruiting 12 brave PhotoPillers (PhotoPills and photography nerds) to join us on a 7-day expedition to photograph the Aurora Borealis and the magical winter’s Golden Light along with some of the most precious treasures hidden in the Lofoten Islands.

It’s winter and it’s going to be cold!

The average temperature is between 1ºC (33ºF) and -3ºC (27ºF). The mountains and hillsides will be covered in a white blanket of snow, creating a picturesque winter scenery.

Also...

The Sun is in the period of solar maximum, which means we will be more likely to see and photograph the dancing green lights of the aurora!

And the golden hour lasts for more than 5 hours per day.

So...

This is a non-stop adventure to chase legendary photos and you are a key asset!

We have planned tons of photos, and we’ll travel many kilometers (and hike a few more) to capture them...

But we also want to maximize our flexibility in terms of itinerary and schedule in order to take advantage of all the opportunities that the changing weather will surely put in our way.

If we're fortunate enough to be out photographing the aurora at night and it takes us into the late hours, we'll take a little extra sleep the next morning, skip Sunrise and kick start our day a bit later.

On the other hand, if the conditions make us skip the nighttime photography session, we'll rise and shine early to catch the Sunrise.

Whichever path we take, you can count on us to seize every photo opportunity and be right where the magic happens!

You are about to embark on a PhotoPills’ style journey. And it’s not going to be a honeymoon precisely... :P

You’ll be a true PhotoPiller!

Are you in?

Day 1. Monday, February 9th - Welcome to the Lofoten Islands

It’s Monday afternoon, and you land at Leknes airport (LKN) in Lofoten, located at the 68th and 69th parallels north of the Arctic Circle in North Norway.

Welcome to the Arctic!

With its dramatic mountains, picturesque fishing villages, pristine beaches, and ever-changing light, Lofoten offers a plethora of opportunities to capture mesmerizing images...

And we’re all ready for action!

After collecting your luggage, take the exit door to the main hall to meet Clément Coudeyre and Antoni Cladera... and probably a few more PhotoPillers :)

3:00 pm

Our first stop is Eliassen Rorbuer, right in the village of Hamnøy, our base camp for the first 3 days of the expedition, and the oldest fisherman’s cottage resort in the Lofoten Islands. It’s a stunning place with a story and a heart.

It offers us the chance to stay in traditional fisherman's cabins, known as rorbuer, that have been modernized for comfort while retaining their original, rustic charm. Located right on the waterfront, these iconic red cabins provide an authentic Norwegian experience combined with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and fjords.

Here we will find traditional and modern fisherman’s cottages, sea house apartments and a restaurant (Gadus).

You’ll be sharing a traditional fisherman cabin (rorbu) with a few other PhotoPillers. You’ll enjoy your own private room and share the bathroom (1 bathroom for 2 PhotoPillers) and living room area. However, some of the rooms (individual) have bunk beds.

We’ll check in, drop our bags and quickly bundle up for the Arctic chill. There’s no time to waste when the light is this magical.

3:45 pm

We’ll walk for 10 minutes to get to the iconic Hamnøy Bridge...

This arched bridge in the Lofoten offers breathtaking panoramic views of rugged peaks, colorful fishing cabins, and the dramatic Arctic seascape. A sight to behold... and to capture with our cameras.

Hamnøy or Hamnøya is a picturesque fishing village in Moskenes Municipality, on the eastern side of the island of Moskenesøya, celebrated for its postcard-perfect beauty and quintessential Nordic charm.

Set amidst a stunning natural landscape of towering mountains, serene fjords, and crystalline waters, Hamnøy encapsulates the essence of the Lofoten archipelago. The village is characterized by its vibrant red and yellow fisherman's cabins or rorbu, which line the shoreline and add a vivid burst of color against the dramatic backdrop. These traditional cabins, often perched on stilts above the water, are a testament to the area's rich maritime history.

Hamnøy's quaint harbor, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and jagged cliffs, evokes a sense of tranquility and timelessness. Its wooden docks and charming bridges connect the village with a sense of nostalgia and authenticity.

The interplay of light and shadow across the landscape creates ever-changing vistas, making Hamnøy a canvas for stunning photography, especially during the golden hours of Sunrise and Sunset.

As we’ll be shooting here for the last part of the golden hour, let’s practice a bit our planning skills with PhotoPills.

So open the Planner and try to understand where exactly the Sun will be setting:

As the Sun sets in the west, its golden light falls on the beautiful red cabins and the majestic peak behind. The waves crash against the shore as we shoot our long exposures to capture the beauty of the moment.

Golden hour begins at 1:49 pm, Sunset is at 3:54 pm, golden hour ends at 4:35 pm and blue hour ends at 4:59 pm.

5:00 pm

When the final shades of twilight fade, we’ll make our way back to the cozy warmth of Eliassen Rorbuer.

Time to settle in, warm our hands, and dream about the next shots we’ll capture under the dancing northern lights.

6:00 pm

Expedition briefing.

Clément and Antoni will go over the itinerary for the week, explaining the logistics, the locations and the photo opportunities we’ve specially planned for you. They’ll also cover the recommended gear and some important safety instructions.

7:35 pm

Dinner at Gadus Restaurant.

Good food, warm conversation, and laughter will fuel us for the adventure ahead. Lofoten is a fishing hub, so get ready to enjoy lots of fish and seafood... But there are meat, vegetarian and vegan options too!

9:20 pm

We leave the restaurant and head back to the cabins, where we layer up and check our gear: it’s time for the real magic to begin.

10:00 pm

We’re back at Hamnøy Bridge. This time under a starry sky, ready to hunt the northern lights. Nighttime lasts for more than 10h in Lofoten...

The Moon is below the horizon...

Hamnøy is one of the best spots to photograph the northern lights in Lofoten!

All we need (and long for) when we’re out there in the cold, at night, is a clear sky and the greens, the blues and the reds of the Aurora dancing above our heads.

As the night progresses and based on the conditions, we might go to Toppøya as well.

2:10 am

Back in our warm cabins.

Get some well-earned sleep before the next adventure begins!

Photographic Pills:

  • Sunset, golden hour and blue hour at Hamnøy bridge.
  • Aurora at Hamnøy and Toppøya (if there are clear skies and aurora activity).

Day 2. Tuesday, February 10th - The Cabin

6:45 am

Gooooood morning PhotoPillers!

Are you ready for another beautiful day full of incredible experiences?

Yeah?

Alright! Get your stuff ready!

7:40 am

After walking back towards the iconic Hamnøy Bridge, we’re ready to greet the first light of day.

We’re in position, just in time for the start of blue hour, when the soft, cold tones turn the fjord and mountains into a dreamscape.

For Sunrise, we’ll be photographing the iconic red cabins in Hamnøy with Festhæltinden in the background.

Since there are no obstructions, the mountains will be catching the very first light at Sunrise.

Plan & Pray!

Blue hour begins at 7:41 am, golden hour begins at 8:05 am, Sunrise is at 8:45 am and golden hour ends at 10:47 am.

9:30 am

Breakfast at Eliassen Rorbuer and down time.

12:20 pm

Lunch at Anita’s Seafood. Their fish hamburgers are really mouth-watering.

1:20 pm

We wander towards the famous cabins of Sakrisøy to photograph the picturesque Olstindbua and the vibrant fishing huts from the roadside.

Sakrisøy's harbor, with its small boats and fishing paraphernalia, adds to the village's authenticity and offers a glimpse into the daily lives of the local fishermen.

Here we know a few good shooting spots to photograph the cabins and the mountains behind them.

There’s one yellow cabin that is perfectly placed for a super cool composition...

Wait and see!

2:40 pm

Before the Sun sets, we’ll do a little hike up to reach the top of a small hill we know. Here we can shoot towards Sakrisøy and towards the village of Reine.

Golden hour begins at 1:55 pm., Sunset is at 3:57 pm, golden hour ends at 4:37 pm and blue hour ends at 5:01 pm.

5:35 pm

We make our way back to Eliassen Rorbuer, where we have a few minutes to relax.

6:00 pm

Time for an inspiring PhotoPills Class with Clément and Antoni. Get ready to learn lots of tips and tricks that will help you plan your photos much faster.

8:00 pm

Dinner at Restaurant Gadus.

10:05 pm

If the conditions are good, our day’s adventure might not be over yet.

We return to the cabins, gear up for another chase under the Arctic sky, and drive about 15 minutes to Reinehalsen. A short walk from the parking lot takes us to the perfect shooting spot, where we set up to photograph the Aurora Borealis dancing above the dramatic peaks and fjords.

Once again, we’re ready at the planned shooting spot, waiting for the perfect conditions to occur (let’s hope they do!).

Reine is a great spot to photograph the northern lights in Lofoten!

Check the Moon using PhotoPills. It’s in its 46% phase, but it’ll be under the horizon when we shoot the dancing green lights.

2:30 am

Bed time at Eliassen Rorbuer, already dreaming of the next shot... Sweet dreams!

Photographic Pills:

  • Sunrise, golden hour and blue hour at Hamnøy Bridge (if we didn’t photograph the Aurora the night before).
  • Sunset, golden hour and blue hour at Sakrisøy.
  • Aurora at Reine (if there are clear skies and aurora activity).

Day 3. Wednesday, February 11th - The Fishing Village and the Beach

6:15 am

Wake up!

Get ready for today’s Sunrise shooting session!

7:00 am

We kick off the day bright and early with breakfast at Restaurant Gadus, where we fuel up for another epic photo adventure.

7:50 am

For Sunrise, we will be photographing the fishing village of Reine from a panoramic viewpoint. Since there are no obstructions, the mountains will catch the very first light at Sunrise.

Here, we will have the opportunity to photograph both wider scenes and tight shots with the beautiful cabins, peaks, and fishing boats.

This bay is quite sheltered, and if there is no wind, we will get the reflection of Olstinden in the water.

Since the golden hour is pretty long (about 2h), we will have time to try different compositions with great light.

10:10 am

We board the bus again and head to Toppøya, another hidden gem for stunning winter frames.

From here the composition is different. The view of the landscape and the peaks will surely surprise us.

From the planned shooting spot, we’ll be photographing Olstinden (675 m or 2,214 ft), a stunning peak rising from the sea.

Blue hour begins at 7:38 am, golden hour begins at 8:01 am, Sunrise is at 8:41 am and golden hour ends at 10:39 am.

11:00 am

After the last shots of the golden hour, we return to our cozy base at Eliassen Rorbuer to rest and warm up a bit.

12:10 pm

We regroup at Anita’s Seafood in Sakrisøy for a well-deserved Arctic lunch.

2:15 pm

In the municipality of Flakstad, we find the stunning Skagsanden Beach, where the golden sands meet turquoise waters against a backdrop of majestic mountains, creating a scene of unparalleled beauty.

The interplay of light and landscape transforms the beach into a captivating canvas of awe-inspiring experiences.

In February, the Sun doesn’t go high. Instead, it stays towards the horizon, creating that uniquely Nordic glow where golden light leaks through the fjords and slips between mountain peaks, bathing everything in a soft, cinematic haze.

It’s time to find our foreground and get ready to shoot a long exposure to turn the moving water and clouds in a silky blanket.

Golden hour begins at 2:03 pm, Sunset is at 4:01 pm, golden hour ends at 4:41 pm and blue hour ends at 5:05 pm.

6:00 pm

But wait...

The day’s not over yet!

We’ll gather for a practical post-processing session with Clément and Antoni to edit some of the incredible shots we’ve collected so far.

8:00 pm

After the class, let’s go together as a group to share a hearty dinner at Gammelbua Restaurant in Reine. We surely need some extra energy for another night under the Arctic sky.

10:10 pm

This is our third day chasing the Aurora and the stars...

And Skagsanden Beach is a fantastic location for photographing both!

Facing north with a clear, open view to the horizon, Skagsanden is one of Lofoten’s best-kept secrets for northern lights photography. Even with low activity, the first hints of green begin to ripple above the sea and climb slowly behind Mount Hustinden, casting a surreal glow across the fjord.

As every single night during our expedition, the Moon is below the horizon so we’ll have a very dark sky.

As always, we’ll aim for the Aurora and the thin Milky Way. But shooting a dramatic night long exposure under the stars is going to be a blast too!

1:45 am

It’s been a very special day. Today we got to capture two of Lofoten's most iconic locations. I’m sure you’ll sleep very well tonight.

Photographic Pills:

  • Sunrise, golden hour and blue hour at Reinehalsen and Toppøya (if we didn’t photograph the Aurora the night before).
  • Sunset, golden hour and blue hour at Skagsanden Beach
  • Aurora at Skagsanden Beach (if there are clear skies and aurora activity).

Day 4. Thursday, February 12th - The Two Bridges

6:15 am

Wake up PhotoPillers!

Another extraordinary day awaits!

7:00 am

Situated against a backdrop of steep mountains and open sea, the little fishing village of Sund offers breathtaking natural landscapes.

The village is surrounded by rugged terrain that meets the water's edge, with traditional red and yellow fishermen's cabins (called rorbuer) adding a splash of color to the landscape. These rorbuer often stand on stilts and line the water, offering a picturesque view that seems to leap straight out of a postcard.

According to PhotoPills, as the Sun rises in the southeast, the peaks in front of us will be lit from the side filling them with volume and texture.

The goal here is to photograph during the golden hour until Sunrise.

Blue hour begins at 7:34 am, golden hour begins at 7:57 am, Sunrise is at 8:37 am and golden hour ends at 10:31 am.

9:40 am

After this early session, we’ll head straight back to Eliassen Rorbuer for a hearty breakfast at Restaurant Gadus, one last taste of their local flavors before checking out and packing up.

11:00 am

It’s time to photograph two beautiful bridges and a spectacular super pointy mountain.

The Fredvang Bridges are iconic structures, renowned for their stunning and picturesque setting.

The south bridge is called Kubholmleia Bridge and the north bridge is Røssøystraumen Bridge. The length of both bridges is 240 m (787 ft) and the main span is 115 m (377 ft).

Set against a backdrop of dramatic mountains, serene fjords, and the clear waters of the Norwegian Sea, the Fredvang Bridges offer a captivating blend of human engineering and natural beauty.

These bridges have become a symbol of the Lofoten Islands, drawing photographers, hikers, and travelers who seek to experience the harmonious convergence of rugged terrain and graceful architecture in this remote and captivating corner of the world.

Tip: It’s also a great location for a drone shot.

12:30 pm

We’ll warm up with lunch at the cozy Café Lille Martine in Ramberg before continuing east.

1:30 pm

We’ll photograph the first part of the golden hour at the always stunning Vareid beach, on the island of Moskenesøya.

There might be snow everywhere. The water is slowly moving among the big rounded rocks located by the shore. Far away, the tall peaks try to scrape the clouds above them.

The Sun, which sets at 4:05 pm next to the background mountains, is now filling the sky in oranges and reds, casting its glow on the west face of the bridges.

At least, this is the scene we have pictured in our minds. And we’ll be there to try to capture it!

2:30 pm

Vikten is our Sunset spot.

The beach offers diverse vantage points for framing our shots. We can capture wide angle scenes that take in the curve of the shoreline, the frozen or frothy waves, and the towering mountains in the background.

Foreground elements such as driftwood, rocks, or ice formations can lend depth to our compositions.

At Sunset, we will be photographing to capture the indirect glow from the Sun on the peaks.

Golden hour begins at 2:11 pm, Sunset is at 4:05 pm, golden hour ends at 4:45 pm and blue hour ends at 5:08 pm.

5:00 pm

We’ll wrap up and transfer to our final base: the beautiful Hattvika Lodge.

5:40 pm

The lodge is located in an authentic fisherman’s area, where ambient oozes of history and a great view to the harbor of Hattvika. You’ll be surrounded by the islands’ typical fishermen cottages or rorbu – the distinctive red cabins lining much of the coastline.

Here you’ll be sharing a traditional fisherman cottage or rorbu with a few other PhotoPillers. You’ll enjoy your own private room and share the bathroom (1 bathroom for 2 PhotoPillers) and living room area.

7:10 pm

Time for a well-deserved dinner at Restaurant Makalaus in Leknes.

9:20 pm

After dinner, if the sky is clear and the Aurora forecast looks promising, we’ll hit the road towards one of our favorite Aurora spots in Lofoten...

Although Vik is open to the west, it still is a great location to photograph northern lights during winter, since you can point your camera north to the stunning Mannen mountain (400 m or 1,312 ft) as the lights move towards the north above it.

Also, if the sea is calm, it’s a fantastic spot to photograph reflections :)

So get ready for action!

Nighttime begins at 7:19 pm. The Moon (21.4%) is under the horizon.

1:50 am

Bed time! Tomorrow is the secret day!

Photographic Pills:

  • Sunrise, golden hour and blue hour at the picturesque village of Sund (if we didn’t photograph the Aurora the night before).
  • Midday shots at the Fredvang Bridges.
  • First part of the afternoon, golden hour at Vareid beach.
  • Sunset, golden hour and blue hour at Vikten.
  • Aurora at Vik (if there are clear skies and aurora activity).

Day 5. Friday, February 13th - Secret Day

I’ve been giving you lots of details of this amazing expedition to the Lofoten Islands.

Maybe far too many...

But on February 13th we’ll do something very special...

What will that be?

Well, you'll have to be there, with us, to figure it out :P

Day 6. Saturday, February 14th - The Triangle and the Dragon’s Eye

6:00 am

Today is going to be an unforgettable day... One of those you’ll remember every time you look back at your best images.

But first, breakfast!

6:45 am

Breakfast at Hattvika Lodge.

7:50 am

At a 30-minute drive from our lodge, we find Stortinden (866 m or 2,841 ft), a spectacular and pointy triangle shaped peak, our main subject for Sunrise.

At this time of the year in Lofoten, the Sun rises in the southeast. And we’ll be shooting towards the west, so we expect the morning golden light to fall on the peak from the side :)

It’s our job to find a nice foreground to play with the peak at the back... It’d be cool to find a bit of broken ice creating a guiding line to Stortinden.

Blue hour begins at 7:27 am, golden hour begins at 7:50 am, Sunrise is at 8:28 am and golden hour ends at 10:16 am.

10:35 am

Once the golden hour ends, we’ll drive to Storvatnet Lake, a serene spot where snow-dusted mountains are reflected perfectly in the still, icy waters.

With a surface of 0.76 km2 (0.29 mi2), Storvatnet (the big lake) is the biggest lake on Averøya island.

The broken ice layers in the frozen lake, the surrounding tall mountains and the golden light (remember that we’re still in golden hour) are the elements we need to work with to get our shot.

In the south now, the Sun is still very low in the sky, so we hope the peaks will be nicely lit :)

11:05 am

Having said that...

If conditions are not looking good at Storvatnet, the ice sometimes is fully covered by snow, we’ll keep on driving to Nusfjord.

This place could be the perfect scenario of a fairy tale...

Nusfjord is one of the oldest and best-preserved fishing villages in Lofoten. Some of the cabins date back a couple of hundred years.

28 people live here.

Our planned shooting spot is located on a small hill, it’s a fantastic vantage point to capture the beauty of the red (and ochre) cabins and the peaks at the back.

The Sun, in the south, is perfectly placed to give us the light direction we want in the scene.

While we always target the best locations, safety and accessibility are paramount. If heavy snow hinders ascent, drones will capture stunning aerial landscapes, so bring yours for limited ground access.

Whether on your camera or drone... it's time to press the shutter!

12:00 pm

After that, we’ll gather at Café Landhandleriet for a cozy lunch before moving on to our last highlight of the day.

1:35 pm

In the afternoon, we’ll reach Uttakleiv Beach, known for its fine, light-colored sand contrasted by the dark, jagged rocks that frame the shore.

The beach is flanked by steep mountainous terrain, which provides a dramatic backdrop to the sandy shoreline. To one side of the beach, you'll find a series of boulders and rock formations that offer endless compositional possibilities for photography, and for Aurora photography in particular.

Here, we also find the dragon head (a rock that resembles a head of a dragon) and the dragon’s eye rock pool, a fantastic compositional element to include in the foreground.

As a curiosity, believe it or not, Uttakleiv beach was named Europe’s most romantic beach by The Times in 2005, and the world’s 3rd most beautiful beach by the Sunday Times Travel in 2010.

(Maybe the Sunday Times should visit Menorca, our beautiful island, too :P)

Golden hour begins at 2:26 pm, Sunset is at 4:13 pm, golden hour ends at 4:52 pm and blue hour ends at 5:16 pm.

5:20 pm

We’re back at Hattvika Lodge, where you have a bit of time to drop off your gear, grab a hot drink and relax.

6:00 pm

Time for a photography roundtable with Clément and Antoni. It’s time to ask all these questions you’ve never asked before!

8:05 pm

We’ll head to Restaurant Makalaus in Leknes for a farewell dinner packed with local flavors. This is our last warm meal together before our final chase!

10:05 pm

One last dance...

It’s our last night in Lofoten! I can’t believe it... time flies!

And we’ll try our best to photograph the Aurora one last time.

We’re back at Uttakleiv beach for the wild scenery, and, with any luck, the Aurora will give us a spectacular finale under the clear winter sky.

This location and its dragon eye under the Aurora is in the bucket-list for sure :)

As always, our plan B is to photograph the thin Milky Way and Star Trails... Or to shoot a dramatic nighttime long exposure!

But if the conditions don't look good at all, we’ll stay at our lodge and enjoy a well-deserved sleep.

2:05 am

Bed time...

What a week!

But wait, don’t hurry... There is one last Sunrise to capture!

Photographic Pills:

  • Sunrise, golden hour and blue hour at Stortinden (if we didn’t photograph the Aurora the night before).
  • Golden hour at Storvatnet lake or at Nusfjord fishing village.
  • Sunset, golden hour and blue hour at Uttakleiv beach.
  • Aurora, Milky Way, Star Trails, long exposures and reflections at Uttakleiv beach.

Day 7. Sunday, February 15th - The Farewell

5:15 am

Our last day begins early, with the Arctic night giving way to our final blue hour just before dawn.

6:00 am

After an early breakfast and check-out from Hattvika Lodge, we hit the road one last time, this time to Storsandnes Beach.

7:40 am

This morning, we trade drama for quiet beauty as we make our way to one of Lofoten’s more peaceful gems: Storsandnes Beach, tucked away on the northern coast of Flakstadøya.

Far from the crowds, this wide stretch of white sand, flanked by rocky outcrops and framed by snow-covered peaks, offers a front-row seat to the soft magic of an Arctic Sunrise.

We’ll arrive in the blue hour, when everything feels still and frozen in time.

Then, as the Sun begins its slow rise above the horizon, the world starts to shift. The sky fades from deep blue to soft pinks and gentle golds, spilling light across the open beach and illuminating the snow-dusted peaks that surround us.

You can’t think of a better way to end this Expedition!

Blue hour begins at 7:23 am, golden hour begins at 7:46 am, Sunrise is at 8:24 am and golden hour ends at 10:09 am.

9:50 am

After a quiet walk back to the parking lot, we head to Café Huset in Leknes for a quick stop to grab snacks for the journey home.

10:30 am

With memory cards full and hearts fuller, we drive to Leknes Airport for our flights back, carrying new skills, stunning images, and unforgettable memories of the Arctic winter.

As this adventure winds down, it’s hard not to feel a mix of everything: gratitude, wonder, and that bittersweet ache that comes from leaving something truly special behind.

The Lofoten Islands... they’ve left a mark.

From the jagged peaks rising out of icy fjords to the soft, surreal glow of the Arctic light... we weren’t just photographing landscapes. We were living them.

We came chasing Northern Lights, chasing golden light, chasing moments.

But what we found went deeper: the quiet awe, the shared laughs, the late-night edits, the hot drinks after freezing shoots...

That feeling of looking around and thinking... “Yeah. This is exactly where I’m meant to be.”

Saying goodbye to this wild, weather-sculpted wonderland isn’t easy. Because the memories are not just saved on memory cards, they’re etched into us.

Thank you, Lofoten, for every dramatic sky, every still reflection, every moment of pure photographic joy.

This isn’t goodbye.

It’s a promise.

We’ll be back.

Until then, keep chasing the light, my friends. The journey’s far from over.

Do you want an example of how huge this will be?

This is a glimpse to what happened in the PhotoPills Expedition to Iceland. We had so many adventures and so much fun... We can’t wait for the Lofoten Islands!

But you don’t have to take our word for granted. Here’s what some PhotoPillers say about the PhotoPills adventures:

“I went to Iceland expecting to have the opportunity to photograph the marvelous landscape and master nightscapes. What I encountered was so much more – 14 kindred souls from across the globe who share a passion for photography. Together we expanded our creative boundaries, learned from one another and had an insane amount of fun in the process. I am confident that everyone came away from the experience a better photographer.”

“From the very moment the guys from PhotoPills announced the expedition to Iceland... I didn’t think it twice! I was using PhotoPills but not at its full capacity, so I had no better chance to learn from the creators of this amazing app. The experience was even more amazing than anything I could have imagined. In Iceland, I discovered a bunch of folks as crazy about photography as I am. I had a blast!

FAQs

What’s the temperature in the Lofoten Islands in February?

It’s winter and it’s going to be cold.

The average temperature is between 1ºC (33ºF) and -3ºC (27ºF). The mountains and hillsides can get covered in a white blanket of snow, creating a picturesque winter scenery.

It’s key to wear different layers of clothing (base, middle and shell layers) to be able to adapt to any temperature change, snow and rain.

What do you recommend I bring along for the expedition?

Your sense of adventure and fun, your camera and of course your sense of humor.

Besides that? Once you book your spot, we’ll send you further details and suggestions about what to bring (gear, clothing, etc.).

Is travel insurance included in the price of the expedition?

No. Participants are suggested to purchase national or international medical and travel insurance coverage.

Also, we recommend you to choose a travel insurance that:

  • Covers trip cancellation costs.
  • Covers Covid-19 health, travel and cancellation costs.

What is the cancellation policy?

We hope you don’t need to cancel your spot, but if a situation arises where you don’t have a choice, our cancellation policy is the following.

If you choose not to join the Expedition, a cancellation fee may apply. This fee will be equivalent to the cost of the Expedition, minus any savings or additional income we generate if we’re able to fill your spot with another participant.

If we’re able to fill your spot, we’ll refund the payments you’ve made, deducting a €300 administrative fee and any non-refundable costs retained by our travel partners.

However, if there are unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances at the destination or nearby that significantly affect the execution of the Expedition or the transportation of passengers to the destination, no penalty will be applied, and we will refund all payments you have made toward the Expedition.

Refunds will be paid by the same method that the original payment was made.
