Description: Photograph the setting sun aligned with the rotunda of the historic New Brunswick Legislative Assembly Building in Fredericton, NB, Canada. We will be shooting from the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge, which is easily accessible and allows for plenty of room to fine tune the composition and alignment. The subject building has a height of 41m. The deck of the bridge has an approximate height of 11.6m. The shooting distance to the subject is 744.5m, giving the sun an apparent diameter of 6.9 m.
How to get to the Shooting Spot: We will meet at the Carleton Park boat launch parking area on Fredericton's north side (45.961503ºN, 66.626434ºW) at 7:00pm. Once everyone has arrived, we will make the short walk down the riverfront trail to the shooting spot on the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge.

The lighthouse tower stands at 14 meters tall, and from a shooting distance of 5.1 kilometers, the Sun will appear with an apparent diameter of 47 meters, fully engulfing the island and lighthouse in a silhouette.
How to get to the Shooting Spot: The shooting location is easily accessible by car, with plenty of parking spots available right next to the shooting spot in Costa da Caparica.

Arecibo (Arecibo Lighthouse)

Description: The Sun will set behind the Arecibo Lighthouse or Los Morrillos Lighthouse in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The tower of the lighthouse has a height of 60ft or 18m. The goal of the plan is to place the sun behind the lantern room of the tower to achieve a sunstar in order to create the effect of the lighthouse light being powered by the sunlight. We will stay through sunset at 6:47pm. Shooting distance is 900ft or 274m and the Sun will have an apparent diameter of 8ft or 2.5m.
How to get to the Shooting Spot: Get direction to La Poza del Obispo in Arecibo and park by the road or on the grass/sand (18.480805, -66.697689). From there, it is a short walk to the shooting spot.

Cabo de Palos (Ant Island Lighthouse)

Description: The shooting distance to the windmill is 2.3 km. The apparent size of the Sun will be around 21 meters, enough to fit the entire windmill within the Sun.
How to get to the Shooting Spot: Since there's limited space to park at the shooting spot, it’s best to leave your car at the beginning of the trail, next to a paintball field, and walk a bit more than 1 km to the spot. Parking: 39.452232, -3.596819.

Castellar del Vallès (Romanesque Church of Santa María del Puig de la Creu)

Description: The Sun will set aligned with the fascinating Romanesque architectural complex of Santa María del Puig de la Creu, located between the municipalities of Castellar del Vallés and Sentmenat (Barcelona). This complex, situated at the top of Puig de la Creu mountain and offering breathtaking panoramic views, is listed as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN), and its remarkable Romanesque church dates back to the 12th century. The height of the bell tower has not yet been confirmed through usual public sources, but it is estimated to be around 22 meters from the base of the complex (based on a sunset photo taken yesterday, 04/20/2025, from a spot quite close to the previously described point). In any case, the goal is to encompass the whole complex, including the bell tower, within a Sun that will have an apparent diameter of 52.5 meters. The shooting distance is 5.7 km, with plenty of room on all sides to position the Sun wherever is most visually appealing (approximate height = 9m at the second location, although Google Maps topography is not highly reliable, as we well know...).
How to get to the Shooting Spot: Take the C-1413a road from Sentmenat to Caldes de Montbui. Before reaching Caldes, take a sharp right turn onto the BV-1423 road toward IRTA Torre Marimon, where you’ll find a spacious parking area less than 400m from the shooting spot. It might also be possible to temporarily park on the shoulder of the secondary road that leads to the spot. While you're there, it's worth visiting the IRTA Torre Marimon complex and the nearby Chapel of Sant Julià.
What to bring: camera, telephoto lens (100–500mm or more), ND filter, tripod (optional but recommended), remote shutter (optional but recommended), and proper footwear (sneakers or similar) for stepping on grass/weeds or uneven terrain in case you need to shoot from the roadside.

Madrid (Pirulí)

How to get to the Shooting Spot: The shooting location is at the Mirador de la Cuña Verde de O'Donnell. By car, there is free parking at the park entrance on Calle de José Bergamín 9, Moratalaz, 28030 Madrid. There are nearby bus stops, and the Alsacia and Pavones metro stations are both approximately 1.8 km away.
What to bring: Camera, tripod, telephoto lens (200mm or longer), or even a shorter lens if you want to include the city in your frame.

Santo Domingo de la Calzada, la Rioja (Tower of Santo Domingo de la Calzada)

How to get there: Take the LR204 road from the roundabout in Santo Domingo de la Calzada, and after 1.9 km, turn right into the cemetery parking lot.

Torrelodones (Palace of Canto del Pico)

Description: The Palace of Canto del Pico is an early 20th-century building located in Torrelodones. After the Spanish Civil War, Franco used it as a recreational estate for 35 years. It is located atop a granite mountain at around 1,000 meters of altitude and is now in ruins due to an ongoing legal dispute between the current owner and various authorities. The shooting distance is 3.2 km, and the Sun will have an apparent diameter of 29 meters.
How to get to the shooting spot: The best way is to use your preferred GPS navigator, which will take you either through the Los Peñascales neighborhood or from Torrelodones via the El Pardo road, which is closed off just a few meters below. There is parking available right next to the shooting location.
What to bring: Camera, tripod, telephoto lens (at least 250 mm), ND filter.

The center of the sun should be on the top of the sword, we should get its silhouette on the sun actually exposing to the sun. The sun will have an apparent diameter 19.1 m, the sword has 16 m height, so the sun will not reach the arm of the statue. Another option to get sun rays by using low f-stops and exposing by statue-memorial. In case of cloudy weather, it will be possible to try the same shot day before/after.
How to get to the Shooting Spot: There is a bus 109, 177 and 178 stop less than 100 m from the shooting spot. Of course it is possible to get there by car, a big parking spot near a shopping mall on the opposite side of the road.

Description: The Sun will rise at the edge of Seaview Fishing Pier—one of the longest in the state. Stretching far into the Atlantic, the pier offers a unique opportunity for a long-distance shot from nearly a mile away (1.4km). The Sun will appear large and cover a significant portion of the pier’s end, allowing for compositions which include the Sun rising directly behind the pier, intersecting it, and potentially silhouetting any early-morning fishermen.
How to get to the Shooting Spot: Free parking is available at Beach Access #4, directly across from North Topsail Beach Town Park (34.496347 N, 77.411729 W). From here, make a left at the access and walk about 5 minutes up the shore to reach the shooting location where the Sun will rise at the edge of the pier.
What to bring: camera, tripod, telephoto lens (300-600mm), ND filter if available, footwear for walking on sand, windbreaker jacket.
